The best places to travel in July are the northern Serengeti as the river crossings begin, the Swiss Alps and Iceland in peak summer, Alaska in its brief prime, and Fiji in its dry-season winter.
July is the northern hemisphere's showpiece month, and it prices like it. The Alps, Iceland, Alaska, and the great Western parks are all in prime condition, the days are long, and everything is open. It is also when half the northern world takes vacation at once, so the game in July is picking places whose capacity matches their fame.
The single best July trade on Earth is East Africa. The dry season hardens, the migration herds mass in the northern Serengeti, and the famous river crossings typically begin in July and run into September. It is peak safari season for a reason, and it books out a year ahead at the best camps.
Where not to spend July: city-break Europe at the crush's peak, with Paris the canonical example, and anywhere the thermometer is the main event.
