The honest asterisks: late summer has become wildfire season, so August trips deserve a flexible itinerary and a smoke-forecast check. And the rainy months are not a write-off. Storm watching on the coast is a genuine local tradition, waterfalls in the Columbia River Gorge run biggest in spring, Mount Hood's ski season stretches longer than almost anywhere in the country, and Portland's food scene does not care what the sky is doing. Oregon in the rain is still Oregon; it just asks for a good jacket.

Winter
Wet and gray in the lowlands, deep and white in the mountains. Mount Hood and Bachelor deliver long, snowy seasons December through April, while the coast throws dramatic storms at cozy hotel windows. The season to skip only if you insist on sunshine.
