The honest calendar for the rest of the year: April through June is lovely and slightly cheaper, with spring blooms in Central Park and waterfalls thundering upstate. July and August are hot, humid, and heavy with tourists in Manhattan, though that is exactly when the Finger Lakes, Adirondack lakes, and Long Island beaches earn their keep. December is a category of its own, jammed and expensive but undeniably magical between Thanksgiving and New Year's.
