What August is like in Seville

August is the hottest month, with highs near 97F (36C) and regular heat waves. Many locals leave, and some family restaurants and shops close for a week or more. The main sights stay open, crowds are thin, and prices are low. The city feels half empty in the afternoons.

Avoid August unless you have no other choice and can handle serious heat. It is not a good month for families or anyone who wants to walk the city. If you want warm weather with pleasant walking, come in late October or early November.

Beat the crowds

  • Book the Alcazar's first entry slot and the cathedral right after opening. Tour groups build by 10:30am.
  • Plan around Holy Week and the Feria if you do not want them. The weeks just before or after offer the same spring weather at far lower prices.
  • Eat and move on Spanish time: sights in the morning, rest in the afternoon heat, and tapas from 8:30pm or later.
  • Stay in Triana or near the Alameda rather than directly in Santa Cruz for quieter nights and more local bars.

Know before you go

  • Many shops close in the afternoon, roughly 2pm to 5pm, and reopen into the evening. Big chains and the main sights stay open through the day.
  • In August, some family-run restaurants and shops close for a week or more while owners take holidays.
  • During Holy Week, procession routes block streets and some sights change hours. The cathedral has special schedules.
  • During the Feria, many local businesses keep short hours because the city is at the fairground.
