What April is like in Singapore

April is still one of the better months, though afternoon storms return as the inter-monsoon season builds. Highs are near 89F (32C) and the air is humid. Mornings are usually clear, and storms tend to arrive later in the day. Crowds and prices remain mid-range.

It suits travelers who can pace their days: outdoor sights early, indoor museums or shopping through the afternoon, and the bayfront after dark. Families and first-timers will do fine. If you want the driest odds, March is slightly better; if you want lower prices, November is cheaper but much wetter.

Make the most of April

What is especially good about Singapore this month.

01

Clear mornings for the gardens

The Botanic Gardens and the Supertree Grove are at their best early, before the afternoon clouds build.

02

Night Safari

Singapore's after-dark zoo is a cooler way to see animals, and it rarely clashes with afternoon storms.

03

Museum afternoons

Storm hours are a good time for the city's air-conditioned museums and Jewel Changi's indoor waterfall.

What to pack for April

  • A compact umbrella
  • Light clothing that dries fast
  • Sandals that handle puddles
  • A light cardigan for air-conditioning

Our timing tip

Book Sentosa and outdoor rides for the morning, since afternoon lightning can briefly close cable cars and open decks.

Beat the crowds

  • Structure every day around the equatorial clock: outdoor sights at morning opening, air-conditioned museums and malls through the afternoon storm window, and the bayfront after dark.
  • Visit Gardens by the Bay's conservatories at opening or after 6pm; midday brings both the tour groups and the heat.
  • Check the F1 race weekend in September before booking; hotel prices citywide can double for those dates.
  • Sentosa and the zoo are weekday-morning plays; Singapore's own families fill them on weekends and during June and December school holidays.

Know before you go

  • Chinese New Year (late January or February) closes some family-run shops and hawker stalls for one to three days, especially in Chinatown; malls, attractions, and most restaurants carry on.
  • There is no seasonal closure anywhere: every attraction runs 365 days a year, which is exactly the point of Singapore. Public holidays bring crowds, not shutters.
  • The F1 weekend in September closes downtown roads around Marina Bay for the street circuit; getting around the affected zone takes longer for several days.
  • Afternoon thunderstorms briefly close outdoor cable cars, the Sentosa beaches' water activities, and open-air decks; everything reopens once lightning passes, usually within the hour.
