What April is like in Seychelles
April is one of the best months in the Seychelles. The monsoon has gone quiet, winds are light, and the sea turns flat and glassy, with the clearest water of the year for diving and snorkeling. Days are hot, with highs near 88F (31C), and mostly sunny. Easter week brings a short spike in prices and visitors, then things settle again.
This month suits almost everyone: families with young swimmers, divers, honeymooners, and first-timers who want the classic Seychelles postcard. The only people who might pick another month are those avoiding Easter crowds or chasing whale sharks, which come in October and November.
Make the most of April
What is especially good about Seychelles this month.
Peak visibility for diving
Calm transition-season seas give the best underwater visibility of the year. Book dives and snorkel trips around Mahe and Praslin with confidence.
Anse Lazio at its calmest
Light winds leave Anse Lazio on Praslin smooth and clear, ideal for swimming right off the sand. It is one of the most loved beaches in the islands.
Easy island hopping
Flat seas make ferry crossings from Mahe to Praslin and La Digue smooth and reliable. It is the best time to combine all three islands.
Cycling on La Digue
Settled weather makes car-light La Digue a joy by bike, with stops at Anse Source d'Argent at low tide.
What to pack for April
- A rash guard for long snorkel sessions in strong sun
- Reef-safe sunscreen, lots of it
- A wide-brimmed hat and polarized sunglasses
- A small daypack for cycling on La Digue
Our timing tip
Avoid the Easter week if you can, and book ferries and La Digue guesthouses early, since April is when the islands fill with the best-weather crowd.

Things to do in Seychelles
Vallee de Mai, Praslin
A UNESCO-listed palm forest and one of only two places where the coco de mer grows wild. Listen for the black parrot; go early for the quietest trails.
Anse Source d'Argent, La Digue
The famous granite-boulder beach, reached through the L'Union Estate, which charges an entrance fee. Visit at low tide for the best shallows and photos.
Anse Lazio, Praslin
Often rated one of the world's best beaches. Calmest in the transition months and in the southeast trade season, when it is sheltered.
Morne Seychellois National Park, Mahe
Mountain trails through mist forest to viewpoints like Copolia and the Trois Freres. Best in the drier months, early in the day.
Curieuse Island
Free-roaming Aldabra giant tortoises, a mangrove boardwalk, and coco de mer palms, often combined with snorkeling at nearby St Pierre islet.
Cousin Island Special Reserve
A seabird sanctuary and hawksbill turtle nesting site managed by Nature Seychelles, visited on guided tours from Praslin.
Beat the crowds
- Visit in the transition months, but avoid the Easter and Christmas weeks, when rates peak and flights fill.
- Arrive at Anse Source d'Argent and Anse Lazio early in the morning, before day trippers arrive on the ferries from Mahe and Praslin.
- Base yourself on La Digue for a night or two rather than day-tripping; the island is peaceful once the last ferry leaves.
- Choose smaller guesthouses on Praslin and La Digue for quieter stays and local Creole food at a fraction of resort prices.
Know before you go
- Inter-island boat crossings can be rough or cancelled in strong southeast winds, roughly June to September. Build in some flexibility.
- Seaweed builds up on some southeast-facing beaches during the southeast trade winds; the resort beach you book matters by season.
- Some seabird islands limit or pause visits during sensitive nesting periods; check with the island operator before planning a trip.
- All visitors must apply for the Seychelles Travel Authorisation online before departure.
