What June is like in Puerto Vallarta

June is when the heat and humidity arrive. Highs sit near 89F (32C), middays feel heavy, and the rainy season usually starts late in the month, mostly as evening or overnight storms. The hills behind town begin to turn green. Crowds are thin and prices are low, so it is easy to find a good room on short notice.

June suits budget travelers and couples who do not mind heat and want quiet beaches and good deals. It is harder for young kids and anyone sensitive to humidity. Early June is usually drier than late June, and if you want reliably pleasant weather, November through April is the better window.

Make the most of June

What is especially good about Puerto Vallarta this month.

01

Early rainy-season green

The first storms wake up the jungle, and the view from the hills gets lusher by the week.

02

Low-season deals

Hotel rates fall well below winter levels, and upgrades are often easy to get.

03

Calm morning beaches

Mornings are usually clear and quiet, perfect for a swim before the midday heat.

What to pack for June

  • Light, breathable clothing
  • A compact umbrella for evening storms
  • Insect repellent
  • A refillable water bottle
  • Electrolyte packets for hot days

Our timing tip

Come in the first half of June for drier days, and plan beach time in the morning and dinners indoors in case of evening storms.

Beat the crowds

  • Avoid Christmas to New Year and the Semana Santa week; the rest of the dry season is busy but manageable.
  • Take whale-watching and Marietas trips on the first departure of the morning, when the bay is calm and boats are fewer.
  • Late April and May give you dry weather and much lower prices after the Easter rush.
  • Stay in the Zona Romantica or Centro rather than the Hotel Zone if you want to walk everywhere and skip taxis.

Know before you go

  • September into early October: some restaurants and smaller hotels close for staff vacation or renovation. Call ahead for specific places.
  • Whale tours only run from December to March. Outside those months, the humpbacks are gone.
  • The Marietas Islands are periodically closed for environmental recovery and have daily visitor caps. Check with licensed tour operators before you plan around them.
  • Hurricane season runs June through November, peaking August to October. Direct hits are uncommon, but storms can disrupt flights and boat tours.
