February is one of the best months in Belize. It is reliably dry, with highs near 82F (28C), calm seas, and clear water. The reef, the cayes, and the jungle are all at their best, and the rough roads to Caracol are in good shape. Crowds and prices are high, and island lodges fill up well ahead.

This month suits nearly everyone: families, divers, couples, and first-timers who want an easy mix of reef and ruins. Book early, especially on Caye Caulker, Ambergris Caye, and in Placencia. If you want lower prices, early December or May are good value alternatives.

Beat the crowds

Book the Blue Hole and ATM cave trips for weekdays; cruise ship days fill the popular tours from Belize City.
Early December and May are the best value months, with dry weather and prices well below peak.
Stay on Caye Caulker or in Placencia instead of San Pedro for a quieter island experience.
In Cayo, arrive at Xunantunich and Caracol when they open; tour groups tend to come later in the morning.

Know before you go

September and October: a number of resorts, restaurants, and dive shops close for part of the season. Confirm your lodge is open.
The ATM cave closes after heavy rains for safety, which can happen at any time in the rainy season.
Lobster is out of season from late winter until the season reopens on June 15, and conch has its own closed season. Expect them off menus in those months.
Hurricane season runs June through November, peaking August through October. Storms can halt all boat trips for days.
